We have made substantial progress in the fight to end horse slaughter but still need to attract more co-sponsors in the House and Senate.

NERC is currently negotiating with several companies to develop a program to assist rescues with the cost of drugs and medications. This issue is more complex due to the various state and federal laws that govern the distribution of prescription drugs.

The Horse Rescue Hotline should be a reality by the end of May 2007. Please watch for an announcement and sign up to participate today.

Several rescue group leaders have signed up to be Horse Rescue Mentors. We need more volunteers. Often people just need a voice of experience to discuss a particular problem they are facing. Please sign up today and share your experience with others.

NERC has several volunteers for the Foster Farm Program. To make this program a success we need more volunteers. Please contact NERC if you can foster one or more horses. A rescue near you very likely needs more space to save another horse or two.

The NERC Rescue Assistance Fund is in its initial stages. Members of the Friends of Barbaro will be assisting us in this effort. We hope to establish a fund to smake small grants available to rescues with special needs. Please contact NERC if you'd like to participate.
